Christmas Tree Farm Field Trip

Today our group went to Holiday Acres Christmas Tree Farm in Manvel, Texas. It was little too warm to get me in the holiday spirit, but the kids enjoyed climbing and sledding on hay, making scarecrows, roasting marshmallows around the fire and a hayride through the farm. They even stopped to learn how to tell a tree's age. We enjoyed the hot cocoa-- but really needed some iced tea or cold lemonade!

Next Field Trip--November 29

Our next field trip is not actually a field trip, but a park day at Bay Area Park on November 29:
  • Meet at 10 a.m. at Bay Area Park at 7500 Bay Area Blvd, Houston at the first playground on the left after you enter (just past the dog park area). This will cancel if the weather is bad. No advance RSVP needed.
If you are interested in our co-op or support group, but would like to meet the families and ask questions first, this would be a great time for you to check us out and see if we meet your family's needs.

Sea Center Texas

Thursday we visited Sea Center Texas in Lake Jackson. Sea Center is a nature center run by the Texas Department of Parks and Wildlife. It is also a game fish production hatchery. We had a chance to look at their displays--the octopus was not hiding so was a hit--and then take the hatchery tour. We learned a lot, maybe too much, about how to get fish to breed. Then we fed fish at the Youth Fishing Pond and went on a walk through the wetlands.

And the Winner is...

Congratulations to our 4th through 8th graders who participated in the Geography Bee on Tuesday. The winner of the competition is Gavin P.! Elaina C. placed second and Adia K. was third. It was a close race with only 10 points separating the top scorer from the last place finisher. I will have participation certificates for everyone, ribbons and prizes for the winners at our next class.
